Child Safety in Automotives

It is every parent's responsibility to ensure the safety of their child when travelling in a car or any motor vehicle. In an effort to protect their children in the car, parents rely on seat belts not knowing these are actually not advisable for children security inside the car.

Because children are typically smaller in size and weight compared to adults, their restraining apparatus should match their body size and weight. Car safety products manufacturers have developed booster seats to protect kids inside the car. Children aged four to six years old can already qualify to use booster seats. Booster seats are mobile seats ergonomically designed to fit the body of children weighing 33 to 55 pounds. A seat belt is then worn around the booster seat as tightly as possible to restrain the child.

Remember that booster seats can be replaced with seat belts once the child reaches 10 years old or beyond. Do not let your child suffer by letting him sit down on something that he has outgrown because he will be uncomfortable during the whole ride. If he is already fit to use the seat belt, allow him to. There are actually two types of seat belts that a child can use, the three-point seat belt and the lap seat belt. Between the two, it is the three-point seat belt that is highly recommended because it covers both the lap and the upper body (diagonal belt). When travelling with your children, invest in safety gear (like those mentioned above) so that in times when you meet an unexpected accident, your child will have a lower chance of incurring heavy physical injuries.
